There’s perhaps nothing the German football media like more than reporting Premier League clubs want to send ridiculous amounts of money to the Bundesliga for young talents.

The latest in a long line of players to pushed around half the league is Jamie Gittens, with German newspaper Bild making some wild claims related to Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are said to be keen on the 20-year-old, and Tottenham are apparently aware they’re set to face strong competition with Chelsea and Arsenal also keen.

Bild say they’ve subsequently found out that Tottenham are ready to break the ‘sound barrier’ and pay a colossal fee. They put that fee at €100m, and it seems a wild claim to make.

Borussia Dortmund may need to sell, the player is thought to be tempted by a move and isn’t entirely happy right now, and his agents – the same company who masterminded the Jadon Sancho to Manchester United transfer – are presented as wanting to earn big.

Gittens has scored 11 goals and added five assists in 33 games so far this season. That’s a good return for the 20-year-old winger but €100m feels ambitious to say the least, so it would therefore be odd if Tottenham were willing to pay that before negotiations had even begun.
