For a while, a very brief one, Marcelo Brozovic to Tottenham was a thing.
It lasted about a month, and, quite clearly, nothing came of it.
Corriere dello Sport insist on Friday the interest was genuine, with discussions between the two clubs regarding the Croatian actually taking place, but what Inter Milan were proposing was rather ridiculous.
The Italian newspaper doesn’t actually say that last bit, that’s our take on it, but when it’s being reported the Serie A club allegedly asked Tottenham if they wanted to swap the midfielder for Jan Vertonghen, you can see why the club quickly put an end to everything.
As Corriere explain, the Belgian centre-back is a guaranteed starter for the London-based club when fit, while Marcelo Brozovic would have only been an option for their already packed midfield.
Inter Milan are reportedly trying to sell their Croatian midfielder this summer to gather the funds needed to welcome Joao Mario from Sporting CP, and a move to the Premier League, away from Italy, would be the ideal situation.
After all, the last thing they want to do is strengthen their league rivals.
