Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as a surprise contender for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech.
That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who say the north London club are considering strengthening their attack with the 29-year-old.
Antonio Conte wants Tottenham to bring in a new attacker. Nicolò Zaniolo was their main target, but his decision to to stay at AS Roma has seen the Premier League side look for other options in the market.
Spurs have set their sights on the Morocco international, who wants to leave Chelsea. AD say they want to ‘discuss a move this week’, without making it clear whether it is with the Blues or Ziyech.
Ajax are interested in him, as a potential successor for Antony. A return to Amsterdam for Thomas Tuchel’s man will be possible if the Brazilian is sold.
The Dutch champions’ idea is to sign their former player on a loan deal and they will have to make a financial effort to take him away from Chelsea.
This isn’t a problem for Tottenham, but the chances of the attacking midfielder enjoying more game time at Spurs isn’t guaranteed.
Chelsea, for their part, no longer need the player going forward this season. With Spurs providing ‘strong competition’ to Ajax, it needs to be seen where he will end up.
