For the past week or so, Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with an interest in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. Four days ago, journalist David Bernabeu stated the north London club are ready to make an offer for him in the summer.
The midfielder has dismissed these links and called out the media for writing stories “that aren’t true”. On Friday, De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun met Barcelona sporting director Deco to discuss his client’s situation.
Despite all this, the reports linking the 26-year-old to Tottenham haven’t stopped yet, and today’s Sport provides the latest.
They state the top European clubs ‘don’t take their eyes off’ the former Ajax man, and this includes Spurs and Paris Saint-Germain.
It’s explained that Spurs and the Ligue 1 winners are the latest clubs to knock on the Netherlands international’s door, and are ‘positioned to acquire’ his services with an offer of around €60m.
The Dutchman’s current deal lasts until 2026 and it may be difficult for Tottenham, PSG or another club to sign him.
That’s because another report from Sport claims Deco has assured his agent that De Jong is the present and future of Barcelona.
