A few days ago we published an article bringing together some of the Andre Gomes to Tottenham claims and explaining the rumour seems to feed off itself.
Tottenham appear to be linked continually because they have already been linked continually, rather than any fresh information. Largely the Spanish media have given up on naming Spurs, perhaps getting a little worn out tracking everything back.
But Italy’s Calciomercato reckon they know different and Tottenham are ‘in pole’ to sign the player. This is all based on Gomes choosing to leave Jorge Mendes and take on British agent Tony Martin, who they say represents John Stones and Ross Barkley.
Yet, it’s also pointed out that move hasn’t happened yet and Mendes could make a late effort to keep his client, which one would suspect likely unless he’s got bored of it all too.
Mendes hasn’t done badly by Gomes, he got the player a move to Barcelona, it’s the midfielder who hasn’t been able to make the most of that.
Catalan newspaper Sport now say the Portugal international ‘prepares his goodbyes’, with a transfer on the horizon: ‘The player assumes that his cycle at Barca has ended and his most likely destination is the Premier League’
There’s no mention of Tottenham, there’s no mention of any English club.
The reality right now seems that Barca want to sell, but there’s no apparent buyer… so Spurs are continually dragged in as window dressing.
