Reports from the Dutch media continue to bring updates on Ajax’s interest in signing Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur in January.
It’s now Algemeen Dagblad (via Soccer News) who writes that the winger is one of the targets the Eredivisie giants have for the winter transfer window.
The story points out that Bergwijn has been getting little playing time at Spurs, with two brief appearances under Antonio Conte, and is looking for more minutes so he can have a chance of featuring in the World Cup.
Still, AD claims that Tottenham ‘have not yet received any offer’ for the player, with Ajax still to make a concrete attempt.
Reports from The Netherlands have been claiming that Ajax would like to sign Bergwijn on a six-month loan with an obligatory buying option at the end of the season. It’s also been recently said that the player himself approved his departure from the London side, where he’s not getting the playing time he wanted.
A return home is often the safest option in those cases, even though Ajax now have an attacking trio which will certainly make it hard for Bergwijn to get a place there as well.
The winger’s contract with Spurs runs until 2025, and Transfermarkt values him at €22m.
