A few days ago, Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris was asked whether he would be wearing the rainbow armband during the Qatar World Cup.
The Spurs player is his country’s captain and with many nations deciding to wear it regardless of whether or not it was allowed by FIFA, some wondered if France would follow suit.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who captains England, will do so after Mark Bullingham made it clear the English FA will pay whatever fine is thrown at them for disobeying the governing body’s wishes, but L’Equipe report Lloris will not be following suit.
In an article on Friday, they explain the goalkeeper ‘will not wear the rainbow armband during the World Cup in Qatar’.
The reason for this is that the French Federation never received the green light from FIFA, despite writing them two letters, which ‘convinced the FFF not to make Hugo Lloris wear’ the armband.
What the Tottenham goalkeeper’s reaction to all this isn’t said, but he had previously stated that he wanted to show respect to the host country, regardless of whether he agreed with their views and ideas.
