Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso is set to undergo surgery on Thursday.
As reported by Argentine outlet Todo Notícias, the midfielder will be operated on in Finland, at a specialised clinic in the city of Turku.
The story claims that Lo Celso’s family travelled from Rosário to stay with him during the recovery. The player is said to be ‘very sad’, as he had the dream of playing the World Cup, and that was suddenly taken away from him.
The player’s objective of being in Qatar is the reason why he was trying to make any kind of effort, ‘including economically’, to avoid surgery and choose another type of treatment in his leg muscle. According to Todo Notícias, both Villarreal and Tottenham were against that.
Argentina didn’t want to take him to the squad either, since he would be unvailable for the first few matches and they weren’t even sure he’d be ready for the playoff stage. So the player ended up having no choice.
Lo Celso is loaned to Villarreal until the end of the season, and has a contract with Tottenham running until 2025.
