Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall missed Sweden’s friendly defeat to Luxembourg on Saturday due to an illness.
A day before the tie, the Swedish football association confirmed he wasn’t fit to travel with the squad to Luxembourg. Jon Dahl Tomasson replaced the midfielder with Swansea City’s Melker Widell, who is currently on loan at AaB.
Sweden doctor Jonas Werner was unclear whether the Tottenham player could be fit on time to face Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
The national team had a training camp in Marbella before the trip to Luxembourg. The 19-year-old had to travel back to his country instead of joining the rest of the squad.
Fotbollskanalen now state the youngster hasn’t yet recovered from illness and this will force him to miss tomorrow’s fixture against Northern Ireland in Stockholm. This has been confirmed by the Swedish FA.
“Lucas Bergvall is not sufficiently recovered to be available for play tomorrow and will therefore not rejoin the squad,” a statement from the national team read.
The Sweden international not recovering on time for Tuesday’s friendly fixture would be a concern for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham.
Spurs’ next tie is against Chelsea on April 3rd and Bergvall will soon need to return to training if he’s to be available.
Bergvall has played 38 matches for Tottenham this season.
