Valencia have identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Winks as an ‘alternative’ to Juventus’ Arthur Melo, according to AS.
Arthur is the priority for Gennaro Gattuso to complete his side’s midfield. They have an agreement in principle for his transfer, but their financial situation makes the deal ‘more than delicate’.
Los Ches are trying to fit Arthur in ‘financially’, once they manage to get rid of a non-EU player. The Brazilian is ready to lower his salary, but it’s still a complicated operation.
Arthur and his camp are optimistic the deal will go through, but if it doesn’t, then the La Liga side have to look for an alternative. This is where the Tottenham player comes into the picture.
Winks is a name the Spanish club’s sporting leaders and their manager ‘value favourably’. The 26-year-old is not included in Conte’s plans and is going to leave Spurs on a loan deal since they have not received an important offer so far.
The England international also received a call from Sampdoria. AS state that after learning he was one of the favourites for Los Ches’ midfield, he ‘rejected the offer [likely from the Serie A side] to wait’ for Valencia.
Winks earns €4m gross per year and his signing ‘works out financially’ for Gattuso’s side.
Conte’s man speaks Spanish and understands it fluently, according to the report, which would help in his integration at Valencia.
As is the case with Arthur, the Tottenham midfielder will be occupying a non-EU slot at Valencia. If one of their existing non-EU players doesn’t end up leaving then Los Ches cannot sign either Arthur or Winks.
