Denmark got their normal squad back together for the match against Wales on Sunday, and managed to beat Ryan Giggs’ side 2-0.
Christian Eriksen scored both of his country’s goals, which is no surprise given the Tottenham player’s return for his country over the past year or so. For so long the Danish media pondered that Eriksen wasn’t showing his Spurs form for the national team, and he was much questioned.
A change of national team manager certainly seemed to help and now Eriksen is clearly the reference point for his country, and continually delivering.
One of the goals against Wales was a penalty, and the Tottenham player has revealed that Simon Kjaer had been suggesting he should take them.
Ekstra Bladet quote Eriksen as saying: “It started already yesterday (Saturday), When Simon (Kjær) chooses to say that he is taking them. There I simply had to say to him: ‘You do not. If I do not feel comfortable, you’ll be allowed, but I’ll take them.'”
The win was a good distraction from the previous week’s problems between Denmark’s top players and the country’s football association, the DBU.
Eriksen explained he doesn’t feel there’s going to be similar problems ahead of the next games, and on whether he thinks an agreement can be found, the Tottenham player said: “Yes, I strongly agree.”
