Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to miss Italy’s upcoming clashes against Norway and Moldova through injury.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Tottenham goalkeeper has dropped out of contention with an unidentified injury.

Vicario had been called up for the Italy squad by manager Luciano Spalletti a week ago as they gear up to take on Norway away from home and then Moldova at home in World Cup qualifying.

Instead, the Tottenham goalkeeper has now dropped out and been replaced by Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.

An official note from the FIGC reported the change and Vicario’s injury, but did not make it clear what the problem was.

“Following the imminent unavailability for reasons of a physical nature of the goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, the technical commissioner Luciano Spalletti has summoned the footballer Marco Carnesecchi (Atalanta) for the rally scheduled for Saturday, May 31 that will precede the two commitments of the national team against Norway and Moldova,” it simply said.

Vicario will now, presumably, return to Tottenham for further assessment on the injury and treatment, and then go on holiday. Spurs will be hoping it is not another long layoff for their number one after his extended absence this season.

While the season now may be over, they will be hoping to avoid any major injuries this summer as they look to start next season strong with a full contingent. Losing their number early on would not be conducive to that.
