Gareth Bale is technically still on loan at Tottenham Hotspur until the end of June, such is the way football transfers work. After that he’ll be Real Madrid’s problem again, and the Welshman has made it clear he intends to return to the Spanish club.

There’s been endless reports about Bale’s future in recent months, and last week there were even claims he’s considering retirement when his Madrid contract expires in 2022.

Before that, Bale’s concentration will be on Wales and Euro 2020, and before joining up with his national team squad, the player has arrived in Madrid.

That happened late last night, following Tottenham’s victory over Leicester City, and El Chiringuito managed to get someone to the airport to cover the arrival.

Despite them inevitably talking it all up and looking for deeper meaning in the trip, Mundo Deportivo and others point out it’s all completely natural. Bale’s family continued to live in Madrid during his loan spell with Spurs, so it makes complete sense that he travelled to be with them the moment he could.
