Tottenham striker Richarlison has revealed he plans to seek psychological help from Tottenham when returning from international duty with Brazil.
The forward has revealed his plans to GE Globo and UOL in comments made after the win over Peru in World Cup qualifying last night.
The Tottenham man has been going through a rough time of late, with a series of disappointing performances at Spurs compounded by a goal drought in the national team too.
He believed he had broken that negative streak last night with a strike against Peru but was struck by bad luck again when VAR ruled it out. That situation was to repeat itself later in the match.
It means his only goal this season so far came in the 6:4 defeat to Fulham in the EFL Cup last month and his last for Brazil was in the win over South Korea in the World Cup round of 16.
That comes after a first year at Tottenham which saw him manage just three goals and four assists in 35 games in all competitions and just one in the Premier League, a poor return for a player who cost €58m in July 2022.
But he’s now revealed there have been external issues too, which he plans to address on a psychological level with the help of Tottenham when he returns.
“On the field I’m a happy team player, I try to help as much as possible,” he told GE Globo.
“Sometimes, things don’t go the way we want. I think this part is a bit of the off-field side that ended up getting in my way. Even though you want to do things right, it ends up going wrong. I will continue to focus on the club, the storm has passed.
“I went through a turbulent time in the last five months off the field. Now things are right at home. People who only had an eye on my money walked away from me. (GE Globo report he has split from agent Renato Velasco, who he’d been with since the start of his career.)
“Now things will start to flow, I’m sure I’ll get a good run at Tottenham and make things happen again. I’m going to go back to England, seek psychological help, from a psychologist, to work on my mind.
“That’s it, come back stronger. I believe I will be in the next (group), I will work for that. It’s about getting a good streak at Tottenham, this week I’m going to sit down and talk to them, I need a good streak, get the rhythm of the game and get here well.
“My off-field situation isn’t very good. These last five months have been very difficult for me. It’s gotten better. The people who were close to me, just keeping an eye on my money, I’ve put to work too,” UOL add him saying.
