Giovani Lo Celso spent the second half of last season on loan with Villarreal, looking for more minutes than he’d been getting at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 26-year-old was a regular in La Liga and the Champions League, and the Spanish side would like to keep him, but Estadio Deportivo explain Villarreal simply don’t have the money.
According to the report, Tottenham have been asking for €30m initially, and whilst it’s thought that could drop to €20m it’s still beyond their reach.
Lo Celso wants to continue in Spain next season and has therefore been offered to ‘several clubs’ in La Liga, with the hope of finding someone who will be able to meet Spurs’ demands.
Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are among the clubs to have been given the chance to sign the player, and the latter have been keen before. Sevilla have scouting reports on Lo Celso, yet there’s no indication of them making a concrete move.
The Argentine has a contract which lasts until June 2025, and that could encourage clubs to ask Tottenham if they’d allow another loan move. Spurs would almost certainly prefer a permanent move, to bring in more funds for Antonio Conte, although that may not be possible.
