Tottenham defender Serge Aurier would ‘not be against’ a return to Paris Saint Germain if it was offered this summer.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Ivorian is on the list of possible targets for the French giants as they aim to strengthen at right-back.
The newspaper explains that those in charge in Paris are planning a ‘major overhaul’ of the right side of their defence this summer after not being impressed by Alessandro Florenzi.
He’s spent the season on loan from Roma, and PSG have an option to buy, but they’re unlikely to do so, with him having struggled to get anywhere near the level of the man he replaced, Thomas Meunier.
His ‘deficiencies’ have not gone unnoticed internally, and while he is well integrated into the squad, it’s felt he doesn’t fit in well, particularly in Mauricio Pochettino’s system.
So a new player will be needed, and Leonardo is ‘scouring the market’ with a view to recruiting a first-choice option.
That has led them to an old favourite in the form of Tottenham’s Aurier, who spent two years at the club between 2015 and 2017.
He’s regularly admitted he would like to return to the French capital if he could, stating that he has unfinished business and there are the club of his heart.
He’s already been linked with a return this summer, particularly when he was struggling for form under Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese boss has now departed Tottenham, so the situation might have changed, but he would not be against making the move if it was offered as he has maintained ‘strong ties’ with the Ligue 1 champions.
Thus, a deal is there to be done if PSG think it worthwhile, although it will likely rest on what Tottenham’s new manager thinks first.
