It’s been a bit quieter on the Tanguy Ndombélé leaving Tottenham front these days, but the Italian media, fully aware that Antonio Conte wants a new midfielder this summer, won’t let it go away.

Corriere dello Sport are the culprits on Wednesday, explaining things are on standby for now with the Europa League final just around the corner, but also because there still isn’t a certainty the Italian manager will stay.

There have been whispers he could leave, which could change the way they operate on the market, but, for now, he’s in charge, so his targets continue to be reported on.

At least, that’s what they suggest, explaining the Frenchman was ‘the hottest name’ on the club’s list before the league came to an end, followed by the slightly less attainable N’Golo Kanté.

The idea is to bring in a midfielder who will help (alongside a second one) in ‘protecting’ their big January investment, Christian Eriksen, on the pitch, giving the Dane more freedom to do his thing without worrying about what happens if the ball is lost.

It all makes sense, but with both Ndombélé and Kanté worth over €50m at this moment in time, it’s easier said than done.

That’s why Inter need to sell before doing anything, with players such Marcelo Brozovic and ‘especially’ Milan Škriniar the likely sacrificial lambs.

Mourinho likes the Slovakia international, hence why we’ve seen suggestions of him being included in a deal in the past, but that isn’t mentioned in this particular article.

Either way, Ndombélé seems ahead of Kanté in the plans, which is news, regardless of whether it’s good or bad, for Tottenham fans.
