In the run up to the summer transfer window, we repeatedly covered the cockiness around AC Milan, relayed by their local media, about signing Emerson Royal from Tottenham Hotspur.
There was a belief that after getting approval from the player, the Rossoneri would be able to pressure Spurs and drag them down to agreement at around €15m.
That always seemed optimistic to say the least, and the cold hard reality of negotiating with Tottenham has now become crystal clear to AC Milan.
Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport explains the Premier League club simply won’t accept €15m. Emerson himself still has the transfer on his mind and is happy with the personal terms he’s agreed with the Serie A side.
That agreement is said to be for a salary of €2.5m a year after tax, which Gazzetta say is the same as what he’s currently being paid at Tottenham.
Corriere dello Sport report similar but say negotiations are continuing between AC Milan and Spurs.
Emerson Royal had been partly attracted to the Italian club because he feels the move would help him return to the Brazilian national team. That may mean he wouldn’t as attracted by Saudi Arabia, with an approach from there rumoured in recent days.
