Ajax continue to have interest in Steven Bergwijn after having failing to take him away from Tottenham Hotspur in the January window.
The forward failed to get more minutes in the second half of last season and is now looking to leave Spurs.
Antonio Conte is willing to sanction the 24-year-old’s transfer as he looks to invest the money from his sale in reshaping the north London club’s squad.
Although the Netherlands international has struggled at Tottenham, he has impressed for his country. Due to this, journalist Valentijn Driessen warned Ajax they need to make a quick approach for the former PSV Eindhoven man.
De Telegraaf explain Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar, and financial director Susan Lenderink, have received permission from the board to improve their offer for Bergwijn. Therefore, the Amsterdam club retain hope of securing his services.
The Spurs player is open to joining the Dutch champions in the ongoing window and has agreed an ‘outline’ five-year deal with them. However, Bergwijn does not want to ‘wait too long’ to seal a move to Ajax.
That’s because there are other clubs lining up for the Tottenham attacker, following his good performances for the national team.
The report doesn’t mention details of other sides who are looking at Bergwijn. It could be a tactic from his camp to put pressure on Ajax to complete his signing.
