One of the better transfers from the summer, Sergio Reguilón has been a success at Tottenham Hotspur so far.
The Spanish left-back has provided José Mourinho with a much needed boost down the side of his defence, with the 24-year-old getting five assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.
Bought for €30m, Reguilón’s contract with Spurs also includes a buy-back clause for Real Madrid, which the Spanish side could activate in the summer if they so wished.
It stands at €40m, meaning Daniel Levy would see an immediate profit, and with Marcelo no longer the player he once was, it’s an option for the La Liga giants.
AS in Spain look at the situation and who could replace the Brazilian at the Bernabéu, leaving Reguilón until last.
That’s because, according to them, he’s not the easiest of options, behind the likes of Fran García, Miguel Gutiérrez, Rafel Obrador and David de la Vibora.
While Reguilón would be the ‘possibility of greater immediate impact’, he represents an economic cost ‘in a year in which Madrid will have to carefully look at their expenses’.
Aside from the financial aspect of things, the Tottenham defender ‘has never been a saint of Zidane’s devotion’, meaning that as long as the French manager is in charge, he’s the ‘most complicated’ of all the replacements.
Good news for Spurs, really.
