All the stars from the Colombian national team who play in Europe were called to gather in Madrid on Monday so they could fly to South America together today.
However, there’s one player who had authorisation to postpone the trip, and that’s Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez.
According to Marca, manager Carlos Queiroz let the player stay in England as he’s set to become a father in the coming hours.
As his partner Daniela Reina is due to give birth on Tuesday, Sanchez is expected to be in Colombia on Wednesday, two days after the rest of the team.
The nice news is given by Marca in one story, but in another one, they say how bad this is for manager Carlos Queiroz, who may not be able to count on Sanchez for the match against Uruguay on Friday.
They say the defender will be in Colombia less than 48 hours before the match, and that means a ‘headache’ for the national team boss, who may have to find a substitute.
Following the match against Uruguay on Friday, the Cafeteros travel to Ecuador for another World Cup Qualifier on Tuesday.
