Over the past 24 hours a claim of Giovani Lo Celso going to Aston Villa, and Jacob Ramsey going the other way to Tottenham has gone somewhat viral on social media.
It’s been credited to Argentina’s TyC Sports, who are a big outlet.
However, TyC’s article makes it clear the claim is ‘according to the English media’, and therefore the whole thing seems a fuss about nothing.
Over in Italy they have their own Lo Celso take. Gazzetta dello Sport report Lazio have been keen on the Argentina international, but they’re facing a rather big problem.
According to the Italian newspaper, Tottenham would settle for around €10m, and that isn’t the issue. The player wanting €4-5m a year, with wages reported after tax in Italy, very much is.
Lazio wouldn’t go near that, and if it’s genuinely what Lo Celso’s camp want then it’s going to seriously limit his options.
Part of the problem is that the 28-year-old’s status at club level, where he played 597 minutes for Spurs last season, is very different from at international level.
Despite barely playing for his club, Lo Celso appeared in five of Argentina’s six Copa America matches, providing the assist for the goal which won the tournament, and that will inflate what his camp think they can ask for.
