On March 27th, Tutto Juve reported Tottenham Hotpsur’s better financial conditions make them favourites, ahead of Juventus, in the race for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.
Last summer, the defender left FC Basel for the Serie A side and has impressed in his debut season for them, scoring three goals from 28 games this season.
TuttoMercatoWeb state his ‘extraordinary performances’ for Bologna have caught the attention of Tottenham and other clubs.
It’s said several Italian clubs are following the 21-year-old but attention must be paid to the north London club. They state Tottenham ‘in particular’ are ‘ready to shop in Italy’ for the centre-back.
As well as Spurs, Juve have also followed the Italy U21 international in recent months. AC Milan have made contact with their Serie A counterpart while Napoli could also look at the player in the summer.
Calafiori’s current deal lasts until 2027 and Transfermarket value him at €25m. However, the report states he’s currently valued at €20m and add that Basel ‘have a 40% resale’ for the defender.
According to TMW, this is an ‘impediment’ for Bologna to cash in from Calafiori’s sale in the summer and could cause issues for Tottenham, who are ready to invest in the Italian.
