With Danny Rose and Ben Davies already at the club, you wouldn’t think that Tottenham would be after a new left-back for next season, but RAI Sports, relayed by Il Napoli Online, in Italy seem to be rather adamant they are.

The defender in question is said to be Faouzi Ghoulam, who is now ‘certain’ to leave Napoli in the summer, with White Hart Lane a potential destination.

Ciro Venerato is the one behind the story, an Italian journalist who enjoys a good Ghoulam story, who previously reported in January that Manchester City had made contact with the player’s entourage.

It appears the Citizens have since moved on from the Algeria international, with Tottenham, Liverpool and Atlético Madrid the only three sides after his services.

If Spurs are indeed interested in the Napoli defender, then he shouldn’t be all that expensive, with a contract running out in 2018 and a club already looking for a replacement.

Personally, we don’t buy it, with too much competition in the position already at the club, but if Mauricio Pochettino wants to continue with a three at the back formation, an attacking left-back like Ghoulam could be an interesting and affordable option.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a relatively successful season under Maurizio Sarri, picking up seven assists in 33 appearances for the Serie A club in all competitions.
