At the end of last week, reports from Brazil said Tottenham Hotspur were in negotiations for the signing of Flamengo midfielder Gerson.
Spurs are willing to spend €18m on the signing, according to the claims. However, the Rio de Janeiro side aren’t interested in selling him, and would turn down a bid of that amount.
Flamengo’s rejection for that offer was even claimed when Goal translated the report to their English version. And now the Brazilian website brings an update on the situation, confirming the refusal but making the effort sound more concrete.
It’s now claimed that following the initial contacts, Tottenham made an ‘official proposal’ of €18m. As it stands, Flamengo ‘haven’t even opened talks’.
The Brazilian side considers the amount to be too low. It’s also said that Gerson wants to stay at the club for at least one more season.
This weekend, Fox Sports Brasil reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Gerson as well. Their story claimed that Flamengo are demanding €35m for the sale.
