Over the weekend, we covered a rather amusing story, at least for Arsenal fans, about Tottenham’s alleged interest in Morten Hjulmand.

It was said that Spurs were very interested in the Sporting CP defensive midfielder, but the big problem is he has the Gunners badge tattooed on his left arm.

We also covered this a year ago, back when he was at Lecce, and now we see Gianluca Di Marzio speaking to Tipsbladet and giving an update about Tottenham’s interest in the player.

It all comes amid a claim that Barcelona are now looking at the player as they seek to reinforce their midfield, but the Italian journalist explained that a lot could depend on where Ruben Amorim, the Sporting manager, ends up going.

He said: “Hjulmand can follow Amorim, so we have to wait and see where Hjulmand goes. Amorim really likes Hjulmand, so wherever he moves to, Hjulmand may very well follow. Barcelona are looking at him.

“Tottenham were previously linked with him, but they are no longer interested in him. Barcelona, on the other hand, are definitely looking at him.”

Why Tottenham have given up in their chase for the player isn’t explicitly stated, but we like to think it has something to do with that tattoo.

After all, it wouldn’t really look very good if Spurs were presenting their new signing with everyone knowing he has the badge of their arch rivals permanently inked on his body now, would it?
