Birmingham City boss Aitor Karanka has backed Jose Mourinho to deliver ‘titles’ at Tottenham this season.
Mourinho is celebrating one year in charge of Tottenham today, having been officially appointed at Mauricio Pochettino’s successor last year.
The Portuguese boss’ first year in the job has been an interesting one, to say the least, with plenty of positives to show so far.
This season is looking like it could be an exciting one as Tottenham sit second in the Premier League table after eight games, just one point behind Leicester City.
They are seen as serious contenders for the title and Karanka sees success coming from somewhere, although not necessarily in the league.
“I know the capacity that has Jose and, since he signed, I am one of those who think that he will win some titles,” he told Marca.
“This year, not only the Premier, all leagues are more open than ever. We have seen incredible results.
“Tottenham themselves were winning 3-0 against West Ham and finished 3-3, Aston Villa put seven past Liverpool… I hope they win the Premier, but if not the league, they will win some titles.”
Key to Spurs chances will be whether they can get Gareth Bale fit and firing after securing his return from Real Madrid this summer.
The Welshman is yet to hit top for following his move back to London, with him still struggling to hit peak fitness following his injury issues in the Spanish capital.
There have been signs that he is ready to sparkle like he once did, though, and Karanka certainly believes he can.
“I think it’s a good reinforcement for Tottenham… and for Birmingham, if it had been possible,” he added.
“We’re not going to find out now. He hasn’t had a good time in Madrid because of what he’s seen from the outside.
“But in an atmosphere where he feels at ease, he’s improving, and in the future, he’ll see even more.”
