If the Italian media are to be believed, then Antonio Conte has firmly set his sights on a reunion with Alessandro Bastoni at Tottenham.
The Italian manager knows the Inter defender well from their time together at the Serie A side, and with a need to add a lot of depth to his Spurs squad, signing the centre-back would go a long way to strengthening his defence ahead of their Champions League campaign.
What’s even better news in all this is that the San Siro side are open to the idea of selling him, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
That’s because they want to keep Lautaro Martinez next season, but with their need to make some money to balance the books, Bastoni could become the sacrificial lamb.
The newspaper explain Tottenham are ‘monitoring carefully’ the situation, as they, Conte included, know that players of his ilk, meaning left-footed defenders, are rare.
Furthermore, the Spurs manager ‘has seen with his own eyes how Alessandro is destined to become among the best in the world in his role’.
That’s some high praise, and it appears €60m will be needed to get Inter to negotiate, a fee which Tottenham could afford, especially if the rumours that £150m has been put at Fabio Paratici’s disposal this summer are to be believed.
