Mousa Dembele managed to make Tottenham’s match against Arsenal on Sunday, after there had been doubts over whether Mauricio Pochettino could count on the midfielder.
He made a big contribution to the match, winning a penalty for Tottenham which proved to be crucial in a 1-1 draw. However, it’s left him as a doubt for Belgium’s friendly against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Given that Dembele appeared on Sunday in such a big game for Tottenham, and his previous issues, and also that the Belgium match is a friendly, it could be considered wise for manager Roberto Martinez to rest him anyway, but he may be forced to anyway.
The former Everton manager has been quoted by DH as saying “Fellaini and Dembele are uncertain, we will take a decision tomorrow.”
Pochettino and Tottenham will surely hope the decision is for a rest, rather than pushing the issue and perhaps seeing Dembele then face an injury lay-off for his club, at an increasingly crucial time for Spurs.
