The agent of Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez has revealed the defender is ‘waiting’ for a ‘more important opportunity’ to come his way.
The Columbian has been at Tottenham since 2017 after completing a £36m move from Ajax that summer.
He has established himself as a key player for Spurs since then, particularly this season, making 29 Premier League appearances in total.
José Mourinho’s arrival has certainly seen him earn prominence, with it felt the 24-year-old fits perfectly into the style and system that the Portuguese manager wants to play.
With a contract until 2024, there have been zero suggestions that Sánchez could leave, which is also unlikely given Tottenham have lost Jan Vertonghen after he elected not to sign a new contract at the club this summer.
However, his agent has now added some kindling to the non-existent fire, suggesting his client is waiting to see if any better offers come in.
“Davinson Sánchez still has many years of contract in Tottenham and is comfortable,” he told Antena 2.
“But he is also waiting for a more important possibility to continue progressing in all respects.”
The quote in itself isn’t much but it’s clear that Sánchez isn’t opposed to a transfer away from Spurs should it be offered.
That’s not to say he will be pushing for a move but, after Tottenham missed out on Champions League football, he may be assessing his options.
These comments from the agent could be the first signal flare being sent up to get the attention of potential suitors or to see if there are even any in the market.
