Marouane Fellaini’s injury has Manchester United panicking somewhat, or so the Italian press will have you believe.
Their solution? Target another Belgian, named Radja Nainggolan.
This is what Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti told Telelombardia, relayed by Calciomercato.it, claiming Inter would like to sell the midfielder to the Premier League, with Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United all circling.
It’s easy to understand why the first two would be interested, both actively looking to replace players who have left their squads this winter (Cesc Fabregas and Mousa Dembélé), with the Blues the more active in that department.
As for Manchester United, the only reason they’ve turned their attention to the former Roma man is because they are ‘struggling with the injury that occurred to Fellaini’.
For all involved, it all probably comes down to how much Inter are willing to sell Nainggolan for, as the 30-year-old appears to have fallen a bit out of favour at San Siro, starting just one of their last five games in the league.
The way things were going, it seemed like Manchester United weren’t going to have any incomings or outgoings this month, while Tottenham didn’t even look like they were planning on replacing Harry Kane up front.
As for Chelsea, they’ve just signed Gonzalo Higuain, but the identity of their replacement midfielder remains a mystery.
We would be very shocked if Nainggolan did leave this winter, as this has somewhat come out of nowhere, but as we always say, crazier things have happened in football in the past.
Also, we don’t know who Carlo Pellegatti is, so we can’t tell you what his track record is like, so this is a wait and see what happens moment.
