Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has insisted he will continue to celebrate big saves like goals, as he thinks they’re equal.
The Italian has been speaking to Vivo Azzurro TV, relayed by Sport Mediaset, about his career and his desire to celebrate as much as possible.
Vicario has established himself as the number one for Tottenham since arriving last summer as the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
He’s proven to be a smart addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad, establishing himself as a strong shot stopper and good with the ball at his feet, playing the sweeper keeper role in Tottenham’s high pressing system.
That often requires him to be the hero, and he’s managed to do that on numerous occasions, pulling off big saves that have secured vital points for his side.
He’s often celebrated wildly afterwards, treating the saves as a striker would celebrate a game-winning goal.
This often leads to criticism from fans and pundits alike, who often question goalkeepers celebrating such moments as it happens more in the game.
Vicario isn’t bothered, though, and insists he’ll continue to celebrate any successful saves if and when they happen.
“I’d like to be able to compare the joy of saving to that of scoring a goal. For me it’s like that, especially when you do it in a delicate moment and save a decisive result,” he said.
