Girona see Tottenham’s Bryan Gil as a risky signing in the summer transfer window, even with his good performances for them this season.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover the forward today and whether the Spanish side will take up an option to sign him permanently from Tottenham.
They explain that Girona sent something of a ‘wink’ to the player this week as they sent him a message for his birthday on social media using the phrase ‘for many years’ when doing so. This was seen as a wink to a potential permanent move for him in the summer.
Girona have an option to buy the player from Tottenham for €15m this summer when his loan deal ends. That’s a figure they can afford, but ‘not without consideration’. Much will depend on whether they qualify for Europe.
The debate s currently ‘more open than ever’ in the offices at Montilivi. Manager Quique Cárcel would like the signing and considers him a bet for the future. In fact, he believes that €15m could be multiplied in future if Gil continues his current path.
But the Spanish club do consider that a risk, especially given his struggles at Tottenham and his failure to live up to the €25m they paid for him.
Thus, they’re yet to make a decision on that on that €15m clause to sign him in the summer and the debate rages on at the club about it.
