Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has finally been handed a work permit so he can travel to the United States to link up with the Argentina squad.
That’s according to Ole, who report the defender flew to the USA from Buenos Aires last night after his visa was cleared.
The Tottenham man was called up to be a part of Lionel Scaloni’s squad for this international break but wasn’t permitted to travel the USA after Queen Elizabeth II’s death led to delays in the United Kingdom.
That had left him and Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez without visas and so the pair were forced to travel to Argentina, where they’ve been training at the AFA headquarters.
But while Martinez was eventually granted a permit and could link up with his teammates in the USA for the clash against Honduras, the Tottenham defender ‘needed more time’ and had to stay in his home country.
He’s now been granted the work permit required after four days in Buenos Aires and caught a flight last night to link up with the rest of the squad.
The situation hasn’t gone down well with Argentina coach Scaloni, who complained “it’s the last date we have to train, and we couldn’t have him” during Thursday’s press conference.
Romero is a key player in his squad, having started five games in qualifiers and the Finalissima against Italy, which they won 3-0.
He has a ‘good chance’ of being a starter in the World Cup at Qatar so his absence in these final games before the tournament in Qatar has been a frustrating one.
He’s not gotten his work permit, though, and will be available for the clash against Jamaica in New Jersey next Thursday.
