As far as loan spells go, Sergio Reguilón’s away from Tottenham at Atlético Madrid has gone as badly as it could have done.
The left-back, who was far from Antonio Conte’s plans at Spurs to start with, has made just five measly appearances for the La Liga side, totalling 98 minutes, and aside from not convincing Diego Simeone, the Tottenham loanee has also been injured, with him currently out of action once again.
With the international break upon us, however, there is hope that he could return to the Atlético squad, according to Marca, ahead of an important run of games for the club.
The Spanish newspaper cover the injury situation on Monday, and state that while both Reinildo and the Tottenham man will be the ones occupying the infirmary during the international break, ‘it’s expected the man from Madrid will be able to take advantage of the second week of the break to join the group’.
That means a return to training for the 26-year-old, who is under contract at Tottenham until 2025.
Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season, the player is expected to return to London, where he will need to find a solution.
That could range from another loan away from Tottenham, or a permanent transfer, all depending on what the likely next manager will want to do with him, as Conte edges more and more towards an exit.
