Sevilla are prioritising a return for Lucas Ocampos ahead of signing Tottenham youngster Bryan Gil at this moment in time.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say that despite reports in England stating a move for Gil is ‘very advanced’, the reality is not the case.
They explain that Sevilla Jorge Sampaoli has made it clear that it is currently Ocampos ahead of Gil in his thinking for the January transfer window.
His list of targets includes both players as he wants to add ‘strength in the penalty area’ as well as depth and speed out wide. However, if he had to choose between the two, the Tottenham man would lose out.
That’s because the Argentine coach believes the more experienced Ocampos is better suited to the situation Sevilla find themselves in. The Spanish side are currently in the bottom three in La Liga.
Thus, director of football Monchi is working to bring Ocampos back from his loan deal at Ajax ahead of the Tottenham man.
Gil, though, is ‘crazy about returning to Spain’ in January and has plenty of suitors, with Valencia, Real Sociedad, Cádiz and Mallorca all having shown interest.
He could, therefore, end up somewhere other than Sevilla, who are prioritising the return of Ocampos at this moment in time.
