Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón has admitted it was nice to ‘feel like a bit of a footballer’ again after finally making his return from injury at Atlético Madrid.

The full-back moved on loan to the Spanish side in the summer when it was made clear he was not a part of Tottenham’s plans for this season.

The La Liga side only accepted the deal as Spurs were happy to pay for the entirety of the loan, preferring to send Reguilón out somewhere he could play than have him sit on the bench.

He’s not had a good start to life at the Wanda Metropolitano, though, arriving with an injury that he has only returned from in the past few weeks.

There had been some mystery about his failure to feature under Diego Simeone in the last few weeks, with it made clear he was fit but being ignored by the Argentine coach.

He was finally handed his chance to impress in the defeat to Mallorca yesterday, something the Tottenham loanee was pleased with despite the poor result.

“I’m very upset about today’s defeat, the bad moment we’re going through, things aren’t working out for us,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying.

“It’s a very sad moment for me and the team. But well, after almost seven months I feel like a bit of a footballer again, that’s the positive part of today.

“We are in a bad dynamic in which things are not working out, goals are not going in. There are small things to correct, we trust in the team, in what we are working on.

“We have to swallow it, win the cup match and return from the World Cup with our batteries recharged. This is very long and there are many things to compete for.”
