Barcelona have been encouraging Martin Braithwaite towards the exit door since not long after they signed the player from Leganes in February 2020.

La Liga rules at the time allowed the Blaugrana to make an emergency signing outside of the transfer window, after Ousmane Dembele picked up a long term injury. The idea was Braithwaite could fill a hole in the squad and then leave the following summer.

That didn’t happen, and now the Catalan media seem to be searching around for options to give them some hope, which is where Tottenham Hotspur come into the picture.

Monday’s edition of Sport reports Braithwaite is determined to stay, believing he can get minutes under Ronald Koeman this season. The only way he’d be tempted to leave is through a big wages offer, which it’s suggested would come from the Premier League.

For reasons which aren’t made entirely clear, that leads Sport to Tottenham, and they say that should an ‘irrefutable offer’ arrive from Spurs in the final week of the window, then ‘anything could happen’.

It’s hard to believe this is related to Harry Kane, because signing Braithwaite to replace the England captain doesn’t seem close to being adequate for Tottenham.
