A couple of days ago we covered claims from Spain of Tottenham interest in Mariano Diaz.

They weren’t the best of claims, but the story was still interesting, with the Real Madrid striker a good option for others this summer. He’s unlikely to get much game time next season given Madrid’s recruitment so far this summer, so an exit looks on the cards.

Mariano spent the 2017/18 season at Lyon and then Madrid used their option to sign the player back for a cut-price €23m.

During his season in France he played 45 games and scored 21 goals.

Since returning to Madrid, he’s made 22 appearances, mainly as a substitute, and scored four goals.

Had he stayed at Lyon and repeated his previous season then his price now may even be double what Madrid paid to get him back.

On Friday, AS back up Tottenham interest, saying Spurs provide another ‘elite proposal’ for the 25 year old. That’s on top of AS Roma, who are also said to be keen.

At Spurs, he’d be a back-up option to Harry Kane, replacing Fernando Llorente who left at the end of his contract.

If Mauricio Pochettino could convince Mariano Diaz, he certainly looks a very good option.
