Tottenham Hotspur’s chance of making a few million from Marcus Edwards is once again mentioned by the Portuguese media today.
When letting the winger go to Vitória Guimarães back in 2019 on a free transfer, Spurs made sure to keep 50% of a future move.
Edwards has been linked with a transfer out of his club for a while now, and that’s exactly what’s explained today in a piece from A Bola.
It was in 2020 that Sporting started getting interested in his signing, but with Vitória demanding at least €12m for his sale at the time, the Lions chose to go for other targets and left their purchase of the English player for later.
Now, according to A Bola, there are new negotiations which could have a happy ending. The big difference is that Vitória are in a much more fragile financial situation, and that means they’re demanding less for him.
So the newspaper says Sporting are only offering €6m for the move and will not go over that. There’s optimism for the ‘old dream’ of Lions manager Ruben Amorim, who’s been a fan of Edwards for a while.
That, however, is bad news for Tottenham, who could have made double if the negotiation had happened a couple of years ago, and now may end up with only €3m.
Since the Portuguese media often says Edwards is wanted by Premier League clubs, that’s probably the biggest hope Spurs could have of making a little more from him.
