Tottenham remain keen on Barcelona youngster Lucas de Vega after making an effort to sign him last summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say the midfielder’s future at the Nou Camp is set to be studied ‘in the coming hours’.
They explain that the offices of the Ciutat Esportiva are ‘already smoking’ and new manager José Ramón Alexanko has taken out his calculator and decided it’s time for sales.
Once the futures of Nico Gonzalez and Collado have been decided, the rest will be summoned to sort out their contracts, and Lucas de Vega is one of them.
Several teams are interested in the midfielder, including Tottenham, who made a ‘great offer’ last summer, which Barcelona rejected.
They are still showing a ‘strong interest’ this summer, say Sport, who say that is ‘reported from England’, although we couldn’t find any stories after August last year.
It’s made clear that there’s no ‘formal offer’ at this point, but there is also competition from the likes of Cartagena and Zaragoza.
De Vega’s situation will become clear ‘in the coming hours’, with him set to study his future with the club and make a choice.
If Barcelona maintain the position they’ve taken with other players, they will offer him a new deal with renegotiated conditions.
In other words, he will have the option to continue for another year but with a ‘strict revision’ of his current deal.
At 21-years-old, though, professional football is ‘knocking on his door’, and the hint is that it could tempt him away to pastures new.
It will all be decided by his negotiations with Barcelona, but Tottenham are waiting in the wings after showing interest last summer as well.
