Tottenham signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich late into the winter transfer window.
The Frenchman has already become an important part of Ange Postecoglou’s side, featuring once in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup. He started for Spurs in their 1-0 win over Manchester United yesterday.
Information about Tottenham’s move for the forward has now emerged and there is belief that they could have ended up with another player altogether.
Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo has reported the player in question is Santiago Gimenez, who joined AC Milan from Feyenoord on a permanent deal
The report from the journalist claims that Tottenham tried to sign the Mexican towards the end of the window as they were looking for players who can add more goals to the side.
Gimenez ended up rejecting Spurs as he ‘had already given his word’ to Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic and he refused to change his stance. His agent Rafaela Pimenta had been pushing for the transfer to the San Siro too .
After this, Tottenham had to settle for Tel, as Gimenez joined Milan for a fee that can rise to as much as €35m.
