Celta Vigo have scored 22 La Liga goals so far this season. Only two sides in the division (Barcelona and Sevilla) have managed to find the back of the net more.
Unfortunately, they’ve conceded 20 and only two clubs have managed to leak more, Rayo Vallecano and Huesca who are propping up the table.
Thanks to their goalscoring, Celta are above the drop zone in 14th, and there’s two men El Pais present as chiefly responsible for that: Maxi Gomez and Iago Aspas.
A gamble was taken on Gomez when he was signed from Defensor Sporting in 2017, but that gamble is paying off with six goals and four assists so far this season. Such form is said to be attracting serious interest, with Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund described as ‘lurking’ for the South American’s signing.
The 22 year old is happy in Spain, but if Tottenham were to come in with a big offer it could make Celta wobble.
Quite what Gomez would think of being back-up to undisputed Harry Kane could be another thing, and the thought of having little chance of competing with the England international will be a hurdle for Spurs as they look for back-up.
