Argentine international Lucas Alario was linked to Liverpool and Tottenham during the summer transfer window, however weakly. Alario has signed a new contract at River Plate until 2020 with a release clause of €18m, reports Marca.
However, if Alario decides to leave in the last couple of years of his contract, River will receive only 60% of the release clause, which is around €10.5m.
Marca say Liverpool and Tottenham are still keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, but they could face competition from Inter Milan, Torino and Benfica. Alario signed for River Plate only a year ago from CA Colon in a €2m deal, and he managed 11 goals and 3 assists last season.
Alario made his debut for the Argentina national team last month, when he was called up for the matches against Uruguay and Venezuela.
The strength of interest from Tottenham and Liverpool isn’t elaborated upon, and at this stage the claims appear quite gentle speculation.
