It’s fair to say the Valencia press are getting quite excited about Tottenham Hotspur links with Joao Cancelo.
Without taking a moment to consider whether the claims are true, in Valencia the hope of a good priced deal has been grasped, and optimism is abound.
Of course, the bubble will be burst sooner or later, either by Tottenham having no interest in Cancelo or the club submitting a ridiculously low offer, but until that time there’s excitement around the troubled Spanish club.
Selling Cancelo for a good fee would be great for Valencia and, after Deporte Valenciano described a transfer to Tottenham as ‘a perfect solution’, the club’s local newspaper Super Deporte has also got in on the act.
Super Deporte line up Tottenham for a ‘fight’ with Juventus, who have also been linked, and this means things are ‘increasingly favourable’ for Valencia.
Spurs and Juve fighting against each other for Cancelo would see his price go skywards. That’s the theory, but in practice things may be very different indeed.
Even if both clubs are interested, Tottenham and Juventus playing against each other, and not caring if the price rises, is unlikely.
