Fresh off a 3-1 defeat against his former club Manchester United, José Mourinho’s position as Tottenham manager isn’t getting any more secure.
Spurs currently sit seventh in the Premier League, a good six points behind fourth placed West Ham, meaning a Champions League spot for next season is starting to look unlikely.
Whether that costs Mourinho his job remains to be seen, but rumours about someone else coming in have circulated for quite some time now, with Julian Nagelsmann often mentioned.
One that has also popped up here and there is that of Maurizio Sarri, who enjoyed a successful and under-appreciated spell at Chelsea not too long ago.
Currently out of a job following his dismissal from Juventus, despite winning Serie A, the manager is looking to get back into the saddle next season, with a few clubs after him.
It’s stated Sarri ‘would gladly return to Napoli’, and he has rejected ‘other teams’ ahead of the upcoming campaign, with Rai Sport, relayed by Area Napoli, claiming Marseille wanted him before settling for Jorge Sampaoli.
As for Tottenham, they are ‘another club at the window’, as Spurs ‘would like him to replace José Mourinho, although they have not yet formulated official offers to the intermediary Fali Ramadani’.
The agent has been helping Sarri ever since he took him to Chelsea, and it’s revealed that should Napoli come knocking, that would be the manager’s preference.
First, however, Aurelio De Laurentiis would have to pull the trigger on Gennaro Gattuso, which is becoming tougher to do following the club’s recent form of one loss in the last nine games, which only came at the hands of Juventus, in Turin.
