In November, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who claimed that Christian Eriksen had ‘suggested’ to Tottenham Hotspur that they sign Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong of Ajax.

Since then, there’s not been many reports talking about the north London club’s interest in the duo, particularly the midfielder.

Apart from Spurs, Manchester City, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old.

Sport has provided an update in today’s edition of the Catalan newspaper and while the majority of the story is based on Barca and PSG, they mention that City have been ‘discarded’, while a move to Tottenham is ‘less likely’.

This way, the report has now ruled out De Jong’s chances of making a switch to the Premier League, with the player preferring a move to the Camp Nou.

However, the French champions are planning to offer a better economic deal with a hope that they could temp the Dutchman to join them.

The Eredivisie star’s future should be resolved soon and more likely before the end of the winter market.

The possibility of De Jong and Ajax announcing his next destination before the end of this week has been talked up, and isn’t ruled out yet.
