It’s hard to work out whether Tottenham are still interested in Takehiro Tomiyasu since there have been a number of conflicting reports, but one thing is certain: their need for a right-back remains.
The Japanese defender fits the bill, also capable of playing very comfortably at centre-back, which is why he makes a lot of sense in Fabio Paratici’s plans to bolster the Spurs squad.
However, the Italian director of football appears to be penny pinching a bit, perhaps as he knows he might have to spend big at short notice on a new striker.
Despite all this, Gazzetta dello Sport explain Tottenham have ‘come forward again for the Japanese’, but Bologna continue to want ‘between €23-25m’ for their star defender.
This is backed up by Corriere di Bologna, who state there are clubs in England who ‘keep pushing’ for Tomiyasu, with the battle ‘between Tottenham and Leicester’.
It’s no secret that ‘the player and his entourage have already given the OK to the transfer to England’ and ‘new contacts have taken place in the last few hours, with economic proposals edging towards the minimum requirements’ of Bologna.
We seem to be getting somewhere, at least.
