A new goalkeeper doesn’t seem to be a pressing concern for Mauricio Pochettino. Tottenham have Hugo Lloris as undisputed first choice with Michel Vorm as a capable deputy.
Pau Lopez was signed on loan from Espanyol at the beginning of the season and should his move be made permanent, as expected, it’s likely Vorm will leave and the young Spaniard become Tottenham’s second choice.
In that scenario Pochettino may be looking for a third choice stopper if he doesn’t think there’s an option in the Spurs academy. That man most definately wouldn’t be Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno.
German newspaper Bild claim Tottenham are keeping an eye on the goalkeeper, amidst links with Real Madrid. The only way Spurs interest in Leno makes sense is as a contingency plan in case Lloris leaves the club.
France’s No.1 has on occasion been linked with an exit, but he’s spoken repeatedly about how settled he is and raved about Pochettino. Still, it’s not a bad thing to have a ‘just in case’ plan and that could be Tottenham’s thinking on this one.
