Having to rely on Ben Davies until September as Danny Rose recovers from a knee injury, Tottenham are a bit light in the left-back department for now.

On top of that, the rumours sending the England international to other clubs refuse to go away, meaning Spurs could be looking around Europe for a replacement, just in case.

Either that or Il Secolo XIX in Italy are doing some scouting for them, as the Italian newspaper reported on Tuesday that Tottenham are interested in Genoa’s Diego Laxalt.

Over the past couple of weeks or so, the Uruguayan defender has been constantly linked with a move to Newcastle, who could offer Achraf Lazaar in return to the Serie A outfit, but Spurs have now come in to spoil the party.

The local newspaper states the price for the 24-year-old is around €15m, which isn’t exactly a stretch for the majority of Premier League clubs, especially Tottenham.

This isn’t the first time Laxalt has been linked with a top club in England, as Chelsea and Arsenal were both reported to be interested back in December.

Even if, for now, a move to a club like Newcastle or West Ham might make more sense if he wants regular first-team football, playing backup at a big Premier League side could also end up being a possibility.

Especially at €15m.

For now, however, we’ll just wait and see if this Tottenham story gets backed up by others, or if it was just a newspaper chucking their name in there to spice things up a bit.
